Honoka Smith is a senior at Hillcrest High School. A model student, they have taken
numerous classes and electives during their time at the school.
During the majority of their time there, they took roughly 5 AP classes, including AP
Psychology, which happens to be their favorite of the advanced classes they have taken. Conversely,
AP Human Geography is their least favourite of this selection of classes. Notably, through this, they
have some teachers that they like more than others- namely Veenstra (who teaches AP Psychology
among other subjects) and Kunz, who is an ELA teacher. Though Kunz may not traditionally be a
favorite teacher, Honoka said that “She goes really deep into every topic and subject and we can
understand why she wants us to discuss the topic and the significance of the topic”.
In addition to this difficult schedule, they have participated in many extracurriculars. Their
favourite of these was the S4 club offered at the school, in which they admired the former president of
the club. On top of this, they have taken part in clubs related to both the English and Japanese
languages.
In their free time (which they do not happen to have a lot of due to the rigorous schedule) they
enjoy drawing, which they consider one of their hobbies. Alongside this, their favorite artists create
illustrations in books, namely those written by Edgar Allan Poe- they described these drawings as
“visceral”.
In the future, they wish to pursue a career relating to the schedule they have taken- they want
to go into journalism, especially in the publishing and copy editing side of the field. With this, they
have taken a journalism class at school, of which they said “I’m excited to not only get my work
published but also to have an opportunity to begin working in the same line of work that I want to
make my career”. On top of all this, much like the vast majority of Hillcrest High students, they have
not seen the class hamster much.
At the end of the day, these things make Honoka Smith not only an exemplary example of the
student body at Hillcrest High but also an incredibly unique person.
