Robert Bunker is a senior at Hillcrest High School in Mr. Rogers’ journalism class. Don’tbe surprised if you see his name in a review for the next major motion picture – this is a studentwho is dedicated to pursuing his love for writing.Bunker aims to become one of the writers for the up-and-coming school newspaper forHillcrest High, the Pawprint Newspaper. During my interview, I felt that he was deeplyconnected with his own passions, and knew his own priorities. He mentioned having trieddifferent clubs and career paths throughout his high school career, but ultimately settling on whathe considers to be his true passion – writing.“I’ve been interested in reading my entire life, really. But I think just last year, I realizedthat I didn’t really want to go into computer programming, and that I enjoyed writing quite a bitmore.”To this end, Robert is focused on implementing English language arts classes to hissenior schedule. While he states that he also enjoys math courses, he chooses to set his sights onthe courses that will further his goal to become a writer.When asked what inspires him to write, he stated that his favorite authors, Stephen Kingand Clive Barker, greatly influence his work. That said, it is clear that Bunker pays attention tothe world around him – literature is not the only form of art he appreciates. On top of the threeEnglish courses he is attending this year, he has taken photography and film literature courses inorder to further his knowledge on the subject that he is especially interested in writing about:movies.“Outside of class, I have taken to watching a lot of movies.” Bunker continued, “But I’vealso enjoyed listening to music quite a bit, and I’ve also played a lot of video games.”
