Tawny McEntire is an artist, writer, and environmental scientist. We talked extensively
about what interests her in art. I started off by asking about why she is interested in art,
writing, and environmental science.
She said that she was into drawing and writing. When she draws she draws sketches
and more realistic looking drawings. When she writes it’s more about fantasy. Then I
asked her why she is interested in writing and drawing, and she answered ”because it’s
almost like taking a step back from reality and a way to create worlds just from your
mind, like you’re dreaming but you’re not asleep.” After that I asked her how long she’d
been doing any form of art, she responded “ ever since I was little, I mean I like, have
poems from when I was like four not good ones but they were attempts”. I also asked if
she had entered any competitions for her writing and she said “ yes I entered in the
P.B.S. writers and illustrators contest” and she also stated that she won in the
competition in fifth grade.
After the interview she said something else that sparked my interest. She stated she
also is a wild flower guide. She goes out and tells people about flowers on hikes up to
the mountains for the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation. The reason she likes
environmental science and writing is because and she stated ”I think it’s very important
to help people learn and to share the natural world” She has been a wild flower guide
for around four years now. Tawny stated the reason she does these hikes and all the
work to learn about flowers is because environmental science interests her.” She in fact
is taking AP environment science right now. She said “I would consider it as a career
about what interests her in art. I started off by asking about why she is interested in art,

do.”
