MIDVALE, UT- Hillcrest SBO’s are working to change the Hillcrest school culture by trying to get more students to attend more games and get more involved with school events.
With the lack of students showing up to school events they have decided to implement the DAWGS program, beginning this quarter.
They are trying to get the program out there and known among the students. You can join this program at Hillcrest.
According to SBO Izsak Urinko, “The DAWGS Program, which is where we have a spirit team.. where we can go to the spirit events and show out for those teams”The SBO’s are attempting to draw large crowds for every sport and make them hype. They are giving incentives to convince more students to come and support athletes during their games, while making the students enjoy coming and watching them play. The SBO’s have given out many rewards helping students form a crowd at last week’s football game.
“Like recently we just gave away 200 hot chocolates.” said Haroon Javid. This was after rainy weather, making it a timely surprise.
This gesture was a reflection of how the SBO’s are trying to lay out a foundation for students to be included and make everyone feel invited to come and support the Hillcrest Huskies. They want every student no matter the grade to attend and give them a memorable experience. Javid said “Everyone should be included and everyone should be invited.” It’s a top priority making people feel welcomed and making them keep coming to have a fun experience.
Even though it’s the last year for these senior SBO’s they want to help sacrifice their time and help the students enjoy their time of year and make it more memorable.
You can join the DAWGS program for your grade by talking to any SBO officer, or the advisors Mr. Smith and Ms. Drake.
