Senior Soccer Players Pose for a Photo
MIDVALE, UT- Oct. 2 was Hillcrest girls soccer’s senior night against Kearns. Leading up to the big game, both teams worked on defeating the rest of the region. The way the schedule unfolded, if the Huskies soccer team could beat Kearns, they would have a tie for the region championship. This made it a very high-tension game with the region champion on the line.
Not only was this the championship game, but it was also senior night, and we were being filmed by CSD TV. Senior Ella Blackbourn says, “It was for the region championship which is something that Hillcrest soccer have not done in nine years. So it was like what if we win? That’d be pretty cool.”
This added some pressure on the players. Senior Nora Hermansen says, “We had a lot of people come to watch the game, so there was a lot of pressure”.
In the first half the game was very tight. You can see how the players play under pressure and in this game we saw how well they reacted to the pressure. “It was a very entertaining game to watch. The beginning of the game was a really close game, and they were doing really well”, said Hermansen
This game took place on the Hillcrest football field, which is a way to draw a larger crowd to the games. Having more people at the games either stresses players out, or it gives them the energy they need to play better. So having lots of people there and the pressure made the girls want to win, and increased their need for the title of region champs. Which is how they scored four goals in the second half to steal the win
