Elise Parry is a senior at Hillcrest Highschool in Midvale Utah. Growing up she always had a
love for art and drawing and wanted to pursue this through high school. During the span of her
high school career, she has been involved with her school’s stage crew. Parry went from a
smaller member of stage crew to now her senior year as the president.
During her earlier years at Hillcrest she was interested in set designing, specifically painting. She
loved to paint and made this her main focus going into high school. After longer thinking about
building a career out of this, she realized that it might not be so easy to get the recognition that
she would need to make it to higher production.
During her junior year of high school, Parry realized that she wanted to go into sound design.
When asked why she was so interested in sound design, she said that when their auditorium was
facing issues with some of the speakers she was told it was something that couldn’t be fixed but
after further investigation, she was able to find the problem and fix it. Even though she would
call herself stubborn at this time, she also described herself as a problem solver and someone
who is determined to find a solution.
After getting into sound design, Parry has been able to appreciate the incredible sounds of the
theatre. She described some of her experiences watching Broadway shows as being in the scene
and hearing the sound not just around her but in her head as well.
After high school, Parry aspires to go to the University of North Carolina School of Arts also
known as UNCSA. They have an incredible sound program there that has connections to
Broadway which is exactly the path she wants to follow. She knew she wanted to go to UNCSA
after one of her friends on stage crew had graduated and gone there. She considers this friend as
someone that she is able to learn from and really look up to as well.
Whether she is helping others during stage crew or learning something new herself, Parry is a
prime example of optimism and dedication. She wants to show others that you can achieve
anything you set your mind to big or small.
