MIDVALE,UT- Hillcrest High school’s key club, led by Ms. Christine Cress, is all about helping people, staying involved and participating in the community.
The club meets every other week, and welcomes everyone, with no GPA requirement and no experience needed. Just a willingness to help others and have fun while doing it.
This year members have been spreading kindness in creative and fun ways. They’ve made ornaments for children hospitals and fall decorations for retirement homes bringing smiles to people of all ages.Key club also helps with literacy nights at local elementary schools encouraging younger students read and learn.
Zaira Syed, a sophomore in her second year of key club shared how much she enjoys being part of the group “its a great way to socialize with people and a nice way to make friends,” Zaira said. To stay active in the club members need to attend club meetings and be involved in 2-3 serviceprojects outside of school each month. Those who complete 40 hours of service by the end of senior year can earn a graduation cord as a reward for their hard work and dedication.
“Key club is about kindness, connection and community,” said club adviser Christine Cress “Its a chance for students to do something meaningful and while having fun and meeting new people and creating some of the best memories of their life.”
Key club is a great way to be involved in your community, and do something thatmakes you feel good and earn those volunteering hours as well. It’s a great starting point for your involvement in high school with being open to everyone.
