Robert Bunker is a senior at Hillcrest High School in Mr. Rogers’ journalism class. Don’t
be surprised if you see his name in a review for the next major motion picture – this is a student
who is dedicated to pursuing his love for writing.
Bunker aims to become one of the writers for the up-and-coming school newspaper for
Hillcrest High, the Pawprint Newspaper. During my interview, I felt that he was deeply
connected with his own passions, and knew his own priorities. He mentioned having tried
different clubs and career paths throughout his high school career, but ultimately settling on what
he considers to be his true passion – writing.
“I’ve been interested in reading my entire life, really. But I think just last year, I realized
that I didn’t really want to go into computer programming, and that I enjoyed writing quite a bit
more.”
To this end, Robert is focused on implementing English language arts classes to his
senior schedule. While he states that he also enjoys math courses, he chooses to set his sights on
the courses that will further his goal to become a writer.
When asked what inspires him to write, he stated that his favorite authors, Stephen King
and Clive Barker, greatly influence his work. That said, it is clear that Bunker pays attention to
the world around him – literature is not the only form of art he appreciates. On top of the three
English courses he is attending this year, he has taken photography and film literature courses in
order to further his knowledge on the subject that he is especially interested in writing about:
movies.
“Outside of class, I have taken to watching a lot of movies.” Bunker continued, “But I’ve
also enjoyed listening to music quite a bit, and I’ve also played a lot of video games.”
