MIDVALE, Utah — The most popular Halloween candy at Hillcrest High School is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, specifically the pumpkin ones. The conclusion was made after asking a variety of a hundred students at the school.
“The first candy that comes to mind would have to be Reese’s. It’s iconic and very delicious,” stated sophomore Nicholas Blackbourn.
Though Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were the most popular, Snickers came in at a close second, and Sour Patch Kids came in at third. Most of the poll list consisted of a wide variety of candy, but the majority of it was anything chocolate-related.
“I think this year people will like chocolate more because that’s what I’ve been seeing people eat more lately.”
The Halloween edition Pumpkin Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups become very popular when autumn rolls around due to their shape and texture. They are completely smooth on the outside, unlike the original cups that have ridges. They also have a different ratio of peanut butter to chocolate than the original.
The ratio of peanut butter to chocolate is different in the pumpkin ones. They have a thicker peanut butter filling. They are also perceived to be softer and fresher due to the manufacturing dates.
Reese’s are owned by the Hershey’s brand, which also adds to the popularity. The largest chocolate company in the United States is Hershey’s, so typically anything that they release would gain major popularity.
“Reese’s is the most popular and still continues to be,” explained Blackbourn. “It is a part of Hershey’s, which is really popular and iconic.”
