MIDVALE UT—The 2026 Hillcrest High School softball season has just begun. So far in the season, the girls have traveled to St George for a tournament, had their annual Battle of the Bat with Brighton High School, and have played a total of four games, not including the out of town tournament.
Just this past weekend, the team took a trip down to St. George to compete in a tournament. The team will play a total of 21 games at least, not including the games that they will play if they make it to the playoffs.
The school went up to 5A this year, shifting all sports into a new reason. The region that Hillcrest Softball is now consists of Cyprus, West Jordan, Taylorsville, Hunter, Kearns, West, and Granger.
The annual Battle of the Bat is a game that takes place at the beginning of the season against Brighton High School. The winner receives a Bat trophy that they pass back and forth each year depending on who wins.
The team got a new coach this season. They consist of two teams, a Varsity and JV. There are only nine girls that play Varsity and others that play both. “We had a lot of freshmen that came in this year that are a part of a comp team. We did really well last season without these freshmen. It was the best the school has done in a long time, so I bet with the new players we will be even better.”
Junior Kylie Frost has been playing softball ever since she was a freshman, making it three years total. Before joining the team Frost had no former experience. She explained that her friend suggested joining the team the day before tryouts, so the two friends went and made the team.
“Somehow we made it even though we had no former experience whatsoever. So that was pretty cool. And I have made so many new friends because of it,” stated Frost.
Every player is different but they are always looking for new members of the team, no matter what position they play. Each singular player can play a number of positions, based on their skills. Frost plays a combination of most; pitcher, first, second, shortstop and third.
“I would say that we have a very good team dynamic. Most of us girls get along very well. We are all fun. After practices and games we will all go hangout,” stated Frost.
