MIDVALE, UT — The Holiday Orchestra concert for Hillcrest High School took place on Tues. Dec. 9. The concert was set for 6:00 pm as the start, and 7:00 pm for the call. The orchestra typically has about five concerts every school year, this one being the second of the year.
They have a Fall concert, a Holiday concert, and a Spring concert that all revolved around the time of year they take place. Due to the fact that there aren’t that many concerts for the whole year, there is a lot of preparation that goes into each event.
Senior Christian Case states, “Yeah for sure there was a lot of preparation. We have been preparing for a couple months now and have been practicing a lot trying to perfect what we have.”
The concerts typically are an hour to two hours long and have an intermission a little after halfway to give the players a break and the audience. “I think our concert this time was an hour and a half to two hours. That is typically the length of our events.” voiced Case
Whenever there are concerts, they revolve around the theme of the time of year. For instance, since this was the holiday fundraiser, the music revolved around Christmas. They stick to this theme by making banners and dressing accordingly.
In the Hillcrest orchestra, there are many different kinds of instruments that are played. It consists of string, woodwind, brass, and percussion. Some of these instruments include violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp.
Case stated, “I play the violin. I’ve been playing since I was seven years old. I started one day and then instantly fell in love.”
The concerts usually have a pretty good turnout. For this specific one, there was a decent turnout. The auditorium was mostly full, considering the large space inside the room.
