MIDVALE, UT- Every morning at Hillcrest High School, the parking lot fills up quickly as students rush to grab a spot before the bell rings. While talking to some Hillcrest students, a few mentioned that the parking situation can be stressful, especially when they are running late.
If you don’t get here early, you’re basically circling the lot until the bell rings. Junior Ella Goodman said that parking is usually manageable for her. “It’s pretty easy for me to get a spot during the day, especially because I come early,” she said. “Around 7:20, when I arrive in the morning, I can usually grab a spot without waiting at all. But if I’m a little late or coming back later in the day, it can be super difficult. Sometimes, it takes five minutes or more to find one.”
Ella also shared that she’s never been late to class because of parking, but she’s aware of the risks. She added that she’d like to see clearer signage and lines in the main lot to make things smoother and safer for everyone.
Office Secretary Ms. Jackie said she’s seen a few accidents this year already and advises students to be here at least 15 minutes early to avoid the rush. “It makes a big difference,” she added. Ms. Dixie, also from the Attendance office, mentioned that parking problems were terrible last year. “We had too many tardies because of it,” she explained, “But it’s been better this year since only seniors and juniors are allowed to park.” Ultimately, her advice is also to get here early. Mr. Rogers also mentioned that “teacher parking can also get really busy after 7:15,” but the key is to arrive early since there can be a lot of traffic at that time.
Hillcrest parking should be manageable if you arrive a few minutes early to avoid the chaos. It also helps to stay cautious. If you still can’t find a spot, the overflow parking is next to the LDS seminary building.
