Midvale, UT — The Hillcrest Esports team, with a 7-2 record, came into the playoffs with great momentum, beating Herriman on Tuesday 3-0 at home. With building momentum, Hillcrest is fighting to continue to play in the playoffs against Hunter this Friday.
With the great start to the playoffs, the Hillcrest Esports team came in with the big win yesterday, beating Herriman with a complete sweep to move on to the next round, moving their rank to 4th in the 5A Region.
Senior Esports player Drew Grimshaw said, “I think we’re definitely going to win this because the 3-0 sweep was crazy and was super important for us.” The team is going into the next round with great morale after having a great win.
While previously losing to Hunter in the regular season, the Hillcrest Super Smash Bros team is ready for their comeback win to secure their spot in the semi-finals. In the regular season, Hillcrest only lost to two of the top-ranked teams in their region.
“We only lost two games; the only two games that we lost were against the ranked one teams at the time.” Grimshaw noted. The only teams that Hillcrest lost to were two of the best teams in their region.
The players have worked every day here in the IB room and every day at home, honing their skills and practicing combos to not make any mistakes while in their competition. They have put countless hours in to be able to stay focused throughout the entire match.
Esports Coach Hulet said, “Also I know the kids go home and they practice by themselves at home”. Hulet knows much effort is being put into this game and how much commitment this team has to keep bringing their all to push to get to the semi-finals.
